“There’s still this place that I wanted to see before the day ends.” I hurriedly went to the very first Roman amphitheatres wherein the gladiators fight until the end. It is the Colosseum. I simply admire how the structure was built. I can imagine how deafening the growls, screams and cheers of the people watching the gargoyles fight to death.
At the center stage, I wondered how fast the fighters’ heart is beating. How much force would they exert just to wear those armors? After a bloody fight, do the gladiators were just after the glory and wealth or they are fighting for survival? Maybe, at the end of the horrible day, someone’s waiting for them and crying out loud for them to come back. If that is so, that is the best motivation they have to survive.
The ice-queen already depicts irritation and she has been displeased by the eagerness and mischievousness of the man. What she did was to seal herself inside a rock solid ice-cube. She thinks that this is the best way to discourage the man because she believes that the man was just lying like all the people that has been there.
The following day, the man returned and he was so shocked as he felt the freezing atmosphere the moment he opened the door. The room was covered with thick ice; it seems so lifeless and numb. The man can’t withstand the coldness and ran away. The ice-queen saw what the man did and said, “A little test drives weak people away.” She felt disappointed and due to her disgust she intensified the coldness inside the room.
The next day, a noise woke up the queen, who has slept away her angst, she was so eager to know where that noise was coming and suddenly, a streak of light came from the door…the man returned! The moment she saw the figure of a man, she easily returned into numbness. The man gathered a lot of things to help him stayed long in a snowstorm-like place. He brings with him plenty of coats, lots of food and he even build a tent and a campfire outside the room so that he could go there when the freezing temperature bothers him already.
The man sits in front of the ice-block facing the maiden and looking at her with all the sincerity in his eyes. Days and nights passed by, the man continues to live outside then inside the room. Every day he patiently sits and stares at the ice-block. He refused to accept the offer of the flame thrower to shoot a ball of fire to the ice-queen so that he could melt the ice easily. He doesn’t want to do anything to her but instead patiently waits for the ice to melt on its own. The ice-queen recognized everything that the man is doing. She can see the sincerity that flourishes all throughout the man.
At first time, she was able to feel her heart beating, pumping the blood to circulate once more around her body. She didn’t recognize that the once ice-cold room slowly transformed into a spring-nature beauty; the once that seems to be just a nature frozen into the ice walls and floors of the house wake up to life. Tears fell into her eyes. The man stood up, tears were also falling out of his eyes. The maiden’s ice block shelter slowly disintegrates as it reveals Angelique face. A rigid personality equipped with a soft heart, then, the man extends his hands to the maiden.
The queen remained still and just looking at her man. Finally, saying these…“Leave! For I don’t want to see you for eternity, for all the sufferings that was caused by your betrayal! You turned your back to me once and you could do it a million times more. Despite of these, I forgive you! Go on with your life! We may not see each other again.”
The man was petrified by what the maiden said. His body became numb; it’s as if the words of the queen were like dagger thrusts into his body. He definitely felt ever single word that she spoke. The room that once became a spring season returned into coldness. The flowers withered and sealed inside the ice. The queen was once covered with her cloaked and she was sealed inside the ice block again. The man just bowed and tears fell down his eyes.
